IB Arabic A: Language & Literature courses
IB Arabic A: Language and Literature (first exams 2021) has three areas of exploration: readers, writers and texts; time and space; and intertextuality: connecting texts, studied through literary works and non-literary texts. Works written in Arabic sit beside works in translation, partly from the IB's prescribed reading list. Standard Level students study four literary works over 150 teaching hours. Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen non-literary text, Paper 2 a comparative essay on two works, and the individual oral explores a global issue through a literary and a non-literary text. HL adds two more works over 240 hours, a second non-literary passage in Paper 1, and the HL essay: 1,200 to 1,500 words, worth 20%.
Offered at Standard and Higher Level; each course below says which.
