IB Chemistry courses
IB Chemistry (first exams 2025) is built around two ideas, structure and reactivity, in six parts: models of the particulate nature of matter; models of bonding and structure; classification of matter; what drives chemical reactions; how much, how fast and how far; and the mechanisms of chemical change. Standard Level covers 150 teaching hours, Higher Level 240. HL adds entropy and spontaneity as a subtopic of its own, plus material such as rate equations, acid dissociation constants, standard electrode potentials and stereoisomerism. Assessment is two written papers — Paper 1 (multiple choice plus data-based questions) and Paper 2 (short-answer and extended response) — and an internal assessment, the scientific investigation, worth 20%.
Offered at Standard and Higher Level; each course below says which.
