IB Design Technology courses
IB Design Technology (first exams 2027) is organised into three themes — design in theory, design in practice and design in context — each read across people, process, product and production, with topics such as ergonomics, prototyping, material selection, inclusive design and design for a circular economy. Standard Level covers 150 teaching hours, Higher Level 240. Paper 1 is multiple choice and Paper 2 asks short-answer and extended-response questions built on the analysis of a product. The internal assessment is the design project: analysing and redesigning an existing product for a user, worth 40% at SL and 30% at HL. HL adds structural, mechanical and electronic systems, manufacturing techniques, production systems, life-cycle analysis and design for manufacture strategies.
Offered at Standard and Higher Level; each course below says which.
