IB Economics courses
IB Economics (first exams 2022) is organised into four units: introduction to economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy, studied through nine key concepts such as scarcity, efficiency, equity and sustainability. Standard Level covers 150 teaching hours, Higher Level 240. The HL extension adds three microeconomics topics — asymmetric information, market power and the market's inability to achieve equity — plus extra calculations across the units, and HL sits Paper 3, a policy paper worth 30%. Both levels sit Paper 1 (extended response) and Paper 2 (data response). The internal assessment is a portfolio of three commentaries on news media extracts, each up to 800 words and built on a different unit and key concept.
Offered at Standard and Higher Level; each course below says which.
