IB English A: Literature courses
IB English A: Literature (first exams 2021) is organised into three areas of exploration: readers, writers and texts; time and space; and intertextuality: connecting texts. Standard Level students study seven works, at least two of them in translation, over 150 teaching hours. Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen literary passage, Paper 2 a comparative essay on two works studied, and the individual oral examines a global issue through two works, one written in English and one in translation. HL adds three more works over 240 hours, a second unseen passage in Paper 1, and the HL essay: 1,200 to 1,500 words on one work, worth 20%.
Offered at Standard and Higher Level; each course below says which.
