IB History courses
IB History (first exams 2028) is built on four concepts: cause and consequence, continuity and change, perspectives, and significance. Both levels take one focused study, a pair of examples such as the Haitian Revolution and Kenyan independence, for the source-based Paper 1; one thematic study — conflict, innovation and transformation, authoritarian rule, or popular movements — drawing on at least two regions, for the short and essay responses of Paper 2; and a historical investigation, the internal assessment, up to 2,200 words. Standard Level covers 150 teaching hours, Higher Level 240. HL adds two regional studies from one region (Africa and the Middle East, the Americas, Asia and Oceania, or Europe), examined in Paper 3: two essays, worth 35%.
