IB Sports, Exercise & Health Science courses
IB Sports, Exercise and Health Science (first exams 2026) is organised into three themes: exercise physiology and nutrition of the human body; biomechanics; and sports psychology and motor learning. Standard Level covers 150 teaching hours, Higher Level 240. HL adds two subtopics of its own — fatigue and recovery, and imagery — plus material within others, such as the lactate inflection point, exercise prescription, sliding filament theory, buoyancy, lift and drag, and attribution theory. Assessment is two written papers — Paper 1 (multiple choice plus data-based and experimental-work questions) and Paper 2 (short-answer and extended response) — and an internal assessment, the scientific investigation, worth 24%.
Offered at Standard and Higher Level; each course below says which.
